Early Years Curriculum

Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Early Years curriculum is rooted in the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We have adopted a play-based approach to learning for children in their first years of school as this is the most natural and effective way for children to learn.

We focus on seven key areas of development —  from communication, language, and literacy to physical, social, and emotional growth — ensuring every child builds strong foundations for future learning. Through hands-on exploration, guided activities, and nurturing relationships, children develop curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Montessori Principles

At Roots and Wings International, we enrich our curriculum by incorporating Montessori principles and activities alongside the British EYFS framework. We believe young children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning, so we provide hands-on, self-directed opportunities that encourage independence, curiosity, and confidence.

Montessori-inspired activities help children develop practical life skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep sense of responsibility, complementing our play-based approach while ensuring every child grows not only academically but socially and emotionally as well.

Primary Curriculum

Key Stage 1

Our Key Stage 1 curriculum builds on the strong foundations of the Early Years by introducing more structured learning while keeping lessons active, engaging, and meaningful. Children develop their skills in literacy, numeracy, science, and the humanities alongside creative subjects like art, music, and physical education. We place a strong emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication, encouraging children to ask questions, explore ideas, and make connections.

With a balance of academic challenge, creativity, and social-emotional growth, our Key Stage 1 program helps every child gain confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning.

Gymnastics

Our gymnastics program is a fun and active way for children to build strength, balance, and coordination while boosting their confidence. Through age-appropriate exercises and games, children develop flexibility, body awareness, and teamwork skills in a safe, supportive environment. Gymnastics not only promotes physical health but also encourages focus, perseverance, and a sense of achievement — all while having a great time.
