Key Stage 1

Overview

Our Key Stage 1 class, which combines Year 1 and Year 2, builds on the joyful foundations of the Early Years and begins a gentle, structured journey into primary learning. In small class, children develop solid skills in reading, writing, and mathematics while continuing to explore through projects, play, and discovery. Lessons weave together academic challenge, creativity, and curiosity so every child feels confident to try, think, and grow. Alongside core subjects, children enjoy art, music, PE, and topic work that broaden their understanding of the world and nurture their unique talents — all within a warm, family-like environment that keeps the wonder of childhood alive.

English (Reading & Writing)

Developing phonics knowledge, reading fluently, building vocabulary, writing simple stories, facts, and poems, learning spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Counting, place value, simple addition and subtraction, introducing multiplication and division, shapes, measurement, time, money, and simple problem solving.

Exploring plants, animals, everyday materials, seasonal changes, asking questions, observing closely, carrying out simple tests.

Understanding what computers are, using devices safely, basic typing, simple coding concepts (giving and following instructions), using software for creating and presenting.

Learning about significant people, events, comparing past and present.

Finding out about local and world places, simple map skills, landmarks, weather, and basic human and physical geography.

Exploring colour, line, texture, pattern, using a variety of materials and techniques, learning about artists.

Singing, listening to music, exploring rhythm, pitch, beat, and performing simple pieces.

Developing coordination, balance, games skills, simple gymnastics, dance, and understanding health and fitness.
